- With one-day cricket growing in popularity, the World Cup was expanded in 1983 and all teams played each other twice at the group stage. The number of teams remained at eight, with Sri Lanka now included as of right as a Test nation and international newcomers Zimbabwe added as ICC Trophy winners.
